Getting Special Treatment on Father's Day

Posted 6/9/2014

The observance of Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June was designated by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966, but it wasn’t until 1972 that President Richard M. Nixon declared it a national holiday.

Next Sunday, BBQ grills will be cooking up dogs and brats, burgers and steaks in back yards, at camp sites and near favorite fishing holes everywhere. Whether you’re a dad or the son of one, you deserve a special day to hang out with your family or maybe relax with a cold one and a TV remote. In addition to the top gifts of ties and tools, clubs and cologne, treat yourself or the dad in your life to a real, old-fashioned barbershop straight razor shave and hot towel treatment.

The Barber Den’s deluxe shave starts with a lemon pre-shave oil. It’s gently rubbed in to smooth the skin before the shave. The lemon scent is a soothing start to your service. A steam towel is then placed over the face to begin the process of softening the beard. After a minute the towel is removed and a layer of hot lather is applied, followed by a second steam towel. This is to achieve the softest beard we can. Another layer of hot lather is applied and your shave begins. We shave the face two times, one with the grain and the second across to achieve a nice close shave. After your shave we will place another towel, this time a cooler one with Osage. Breathing in deeply during this really wakes you up while the coolness closes your pores. To finish we do a splash of bay rum, a massage with a moisturizing facial cream and finally a towel pat with talcum powder. This comfortable soothing process takes about 30 minutes.

If you like the feel of a close shave or just want a trim or shape to your facial hair, let The Barber Den give you master barber treatment in a traditional barbershop setting.
