Barber Trivia

"Shave and a haircut, two bits!"

This little 7-note riff has been around since the late 1800's, but the words weren't added until around 1939, notably in a Milton Berle song and later, by the Three Stooges.  After that, the tune became common in many cartoon skits.

During the Vietnam war, it was reported that POW's would knock out the first five notes on a wall, then wait to hear the last two from other prisoners, identifying themselves as Americans.

By the way, two bits is the equivalent of 25 cents, not a bad price to pay for quality service, even in 1939!

If you participated in our No Shave November campaign and are looking a little shabby right now, get yourself down to The Den during the month of December, and we will not only give you a great shave but 10% of the cost of your shave will be donated to the No-Shave November non-profit, which raises funds for cancer research and treatment. If you (or those around you) didn't care for a month without a good, clean shave, you can still help out by making a donation to No Shave November. Click Here to join The Barber Den Team!
